Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Neil Young can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Neil Wickware Young

Neil was born in Kinistino, SK on December 25, 1959. He attended school in Weldon, SK until Grad e 8 then moved to Bertwell with his family where he attended school in Weekes & graduated in 1978. Shortly after graduating, Neil worked at various grain elevators before being employed at SK Forest Products in 1979. In 1981 he married Shelly Fleming & made their home in Hudson Bay. A year later, Neil & Shelly moved to Yorkton, SK where he acquired his apprentice electrician certificate. In February 1983 their daughter Shentel was born and shortly after in the spring they moved back to Hudson Bay where he continued working at SK Forest Products. In January 1985 their family was complete after their son Brenan was born. Neil took great pride in his family always putting their interests first. He always was a big part in his family’s activities from endless days at the lake, coaching ball, judging gymnastics, coaching hockey, watching volleyball or just spending time and having fun with the family. He continued working at SFP till the closure in 2007 which after he took his Class 1A in Yorkton. He then started employment at NorthStar where he worked till the summer of 2019. Throughout his working years he made many new friendships and truly enjoyed all his working family.

Neil loved his family dearly, looking forward to every special moment. He especially loved having the grandchildren come and spend time at their seasonal lot at McBride Lake. Countless memories were made including tubing, fishing, camping, many side by side adventures and just spending time together which we all cherish. The family is going to miss him dearly.
Neil was predeceased by his parents Dan & Alma Young, step-mom Lillian Young, step-brother Larry Eberle, brother-in-law Robert Lindenback, father-in-law Lorne Fleming.
He is survived by wife Shelly; daughter Shentel (Donavin); son Brenan (Erica); grandchildren: Madison, Zackary, Leah and Emery; brother; Bryce (Yvonne) Young, sister; Ardith (Tom Lindenback); step sister Sharon Eberle and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Those so wishing may make memorial donations in memory of Neil to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency or to the Hudson Bay Hope Foundation.
