Obituary for Mary Davidson

Mary Davidson
Mary Davidson was born June 24, 1932, to Annie (Kapeller) and John Schneider. She passed away peacefully on December 18, 2022, at the age of 90.

Mary attended Pringleton school where she received Grade 8 education and then set out to work at age 14. She obtained a job as housekeeper with several families in Tisdale, and then did Housekeeping/Waitressing at a hotel in Wakaw SK.

On November 16, 1953, Mary at the age of 21, married Gordon R Davidson and they settled on Davidson family farm four miles west of her childhood home in the Forest View School District. Life as mixed farmers had begun. With their hard work ethic, they made a sustainable life together and raised their children Corinne, Cal, and Tim. Through the tough times there was also music and laughter. Like many women of the time, she grew a large garden and enjoyed working in her yard.

Mary aways kept the home fires burning when Gordon was away working or playing at dances. She never let the children know her fears of being alone with farm responsibilities when Gordon was gone. She often commented on the support of siblings and neighbors in tough times. She was a gracious hostess, welcoming whoever came to their home. She enjoyed visits from extended family from across Canada. Family gatherings were important to her.

Gordon and Mary opened their home to mentor children and teenagers for 40 years. She was caring and warm hearted and could give tough love when needed. She instilled values of fairness, kindness, and hard work into all her children, and later to her grandchildren.

A year after Mary and Gordon had “retired” to Caleb Village Condos in Tisdale Gordon passed away. Despite this heartbreak, Mary still enjoyed these later years, and maintained her quick wit. She still loved to socialize, dance, and go for coffee. She had great joy seeing her great grandchildren. As for many people, COVID-19 was a very difficult time, as her memory and health began to decline. Mary became a resident of New Market Place in Tisdale July 5, 2022. She was always known for her infectious laugh, warm hugs, and twinkling eyes, even as her health declined.

Mary is pre-deceased by her parents John and Annie Schneider; sisters Rosa (died an infant), Sicillia, and Alice; brothers Mike, John, Jim, Phillip (died an infant), Carl, and Paul; loving husband Gordon; son Tim, and an infant son.

She is survived by two children Corinne (Richard) and Cal (Debbie); grandchildren Shaun (Jessie), Sarah (Jordan), Lee-Anne (Nick), and Tyson (Taylor); great grandchildren Cohen, Watson, Wilfred and Stevie; sister-in-law Freda and brother-in-law Ray; and nieces and nephews.
