Obituary for Thomas Earl Carey

Tommy was born September 5 1918 to Effie (Dunn) and Thomas Carey in Willowbrook, Saskatchewan.
Tommy was their firstborn and was named after his father. He was the oldest of 5, he had 2 brothers, Clifford and Henry, and 2 sisters, Lena and Minnie.
The siblings grew up in Willowbrook on the family farm and moved to Chelan area in 1960. They remained close their entire lives. Tommy, Clifford and Henry lived together most of their adult lives in a house they built in the Chelan District.
Tommy was always the boss. He made sure everything was looked after properly and kept track of what needed to get done.
Tommy had a great love for all animals, even having a pet weasel in the house, but nothing could beat his love of horses, especially his “Little Grey”. He was always eager to watch chariots at all the local fairs and to go wheel and deal at horse sales.
Tommy enjoyed listening to the hockey game on the radio and he loved playing Bingo. He looked forward to Bingo games where he could win his orange pop! Tommy was also an avid outdoorsman. A gardener, farmer, and trapper. He could grow a crop of potatoes like no other, even growing 1000 hills one year. Tommy and his brothers kept separate gardens to see who had the greenest thumb.
It’s hard to differentiate Tommy from his brothers because they were always together and did everything together. The 3 brothers often piled into the truck and headed to Porcupine Plain to visit with friends and their sister who always had coffee, lunch and a good tv show for them to watch.
As time passed by, Tommy had to say goodbye to his beloved sister Lena (2011) and his youngest brother Henry (2012).
After Henry’s passing, Tommy and Clifford moved in with various family members over the winter months. They then moved back home for the warmer months.
That Fall, in 2013, Tommy and Clifford moved into Centennial Lodge in Porcupine Plain. They enjoyed their time there surrounded by new friends. Clifford moved into the nursing home in January 2017, with Tommy following in April because Clifford was lonesome without his brother. Tommy was devastated saying goodbye to Clifford in July of 2017. Tommy remained in the Red Deer Nursing Home until his passing.
Tommy is predeceased by his parents Effie and Thomas Carey; siblings: Minnie Carey (In Infancy), Henry Carey, Lena Frederick, Clifford Carey and brother-in-law Charles Frederick and friend Brad Staszczak.
Tommy will be remembered, and his memory cherished by his nieces: Nancy Holmes, Meta Frederick (Kelvin Ruther), Effie Harbison, Donna (Ryan) Sinclair; friend Robert Harbison; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
