George Ernest Gaudreau
George Ernest Gaudreau was born to Euclide and Angelina (Messier) at home in the RM of Spalding on September 20, 1918. He was the second youngest of 13 children. In his early years, George and his brother had a trucking business that helped support the family.
George enlisted in the armed forces at age 21 in 1940, trained in England and served in Algiers, Italy and Holland as a driver/mechanic in the 11th CDN Infantry Bde. He returned to the farm and trucking business in 1946 with his brother. He suffered TB and spent two years in the sanitorium in Prince Albert in the mid 50’s. He later farmed in the Archerwill area, near his lifelong friend Bernard Dease
George was a confirmed bachelor until he married Hazel Nerlien in 1972. George had been working as a mechanic for Ministry of Highways and later was a faller for Norman Dease in the forest industry south of Hudson Bay. They lived in Porcupine Plain before moving to Arabella where they built their own home and lived for 20 years, spending their early retirement years. In 1999 they moved to Porcupine Plain to be closer to family and friends. George enjoyed a lifetime of hunting, fishing and also became a skilled knife builder.
George spent the last two years in Red Deer Nursing home and truly loved and appreciated the care he received.
George was predeceased by his parents and 12 siblings. He is survived by his wife Hazel of 48 years and her children Andy (Elva) Nerlien, Hubert (Giselle)Nerlien and Brenda (Mytro) Boyko Brent (Hali) Boyko, Kyle (Chelsea) Boyko. He also enjoyed grandchildren Sonja (Dan) Stadnek, Curtis (Kelly) Nerlien, Angela (Pat) Wright, Erik (Annie) Nerlien, Mitchell Nerlien and great grandchildren Rylan Stadnek, Sydney Stadnek and Raelyn Stadnek (Colby), Dominique Wright, Broc Wright, Alexis Wright, Ellia Nerlien, Tyler Ledoux, Jaden Ledoux and Kelsey Nerlien, Brennan, Kruze and Kallin Boyko and Ashley, Tyler, Hudson, Kendal and Burke Boyko. He was also very proud of his many nieces and nephews.
George was a very proud Canadian. He was proud of his advocacy against gun control legislation and a letter he wrote was read and recorded in the Parliament of Canada Hansard. As a war veteran he strongly believed in the rights of the person.
