Obituary for Isabel Margaret Saufert (Bender)

Margaret was born April 16, 1932 to Herman and Doris Bender at Arcola, Saskatchewan. When she was two years old, the family moved north to the Prairie River area where Herman and Doris farmed. She attended school at Blighty. On March 27,1951 she married Mike Saufert and they lived in a tiny house north of Carragana. In 1951 Doris came along, then in 1952 Michael, in 1955 Deborah, in 1959 Dale and in 1965 Denise came along, and that was to be all of their children. In 1963 the family moved to a new farm just north of Carragana, where they farmed until 1983. At that time they moved into Porcupine Plain into their brand new home that Mike had built along with help from family and friends. Margaret was very busy with community functions and clubs, such as the Saint Andrews W A, the Carragana curling club, and also the Hospital auxiliary in Porcupine Plain. After many years working on the farm she also worked at the Red Deer Nursing Home. Mike and Margaret also enjoyed golfing, travel and camping. They had a trailer at Marean lake and Greenwater Lake for several years. Mike passed away in 2005 and Margaret continued to live in their home and being active in her community. In 2012, Margaret suffered from a stroke which she recovered from very well. In 2014, Margaret decided to sell her home and move to Saskatoon where she spent many good years until she had another stroke and then had to move into care. She will be deeply missed by all her family and her friends. Margaret loved her family deeply, and you could always find her family around whenever there was a holiday or long weekend, and she loved to cook for them all. She was well known for her perogies. Margaret was predeceased by her mother and father, sisters, Marie (Ivan) Macdonald and Beatrice (Johnny) Lemire and her brothers Walter (Flora) Bender and Ron (Shirley) Bender and brother-in-law Harold Swift. Left to mourn is her brother Bill (Kathy) Bender and sister Betty Swift. Also left a mourn are her children, Doris (Bill) Reed, Michael (Fern) Saufert, Deborah (Jim) Gass, Dale (Laura) Saufert, Denise (Calvin) Buekert, and all their children and grandchildren.

Thanks to everyone who sent condolences and kind thoughts to all the family. Also to Blairs Funeral Home for taking care of Margaret’s memorial.
