Obituary for A. B. Doreen Wasylyk (Banks)

Doreen passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 24th, 2023 at the age of ninety-two and was predeceased by her husband Peter Wasylyk, in 2016.

Doreen was the fifth child and oldest daughter to George Sr. and Nellie Banks, and a devoted sister to her four brothers and one sister; all whom are predeceased.

She was an exceptionally talented woman who showcased herself in her roles as daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend and active community member.

Doreen married Peter on January 5th,1955 and had four children; Judy, Robert, Donald and Gwendolen. The family resided on a farm slightly north of Somme, SK.

Expert seamstress; skillful knitter; adept crocheter; outstanding flower and vegetable gardener; fantastic baker, canner and cook are accomplished titles which sit at the top of Doreen's long list of brilliant talents. She had life-long passions for curling, dancing, bingo, and supporting her community.

Throughout the years while she oversaw a multi-faceted farming household and raising her family Doreen was a dedicated, well-known and loved member in the Souchez Ladies Club; The Order of the Royal Purple (Weekes, SK); the Somme Curling Club; and a devoted volunteer at the Weekes Skating and Curling Rink.

Spending her semi-retirement years in Tisdale, SK with Peter, Doreen was an active member of the Anglican Ladies Club and the Tisdale Seniors Club. She created hardanger embroidery, played cards and dominos and continued her life-long love of curling.

Sending all their love to Mum are daughters Judy and Gwen; sons Bob (Cathy) and Don; Grandma Doreen's six grandchildren Kerry (John), Nicole, Colin, Daniel (Akeyla), Rylin (Hannah), Morgan (Ty) and, five great-grandchildren Kayden, Hunter, Summer, Veda and Kitt.
