Obituary for Donald Alvin Wizniak

Donald Alvin Wizniak was born on August 9, 1937 at Hudson Bay Junction, Saskatchewan to parents Leo Wizniak and Stella (Toporowski) Wizniak. Don grew up and went to school in Hudson Bay where he kept busy playing hockey and baseball. He also loved camping, fishing, hunting, and helping his dad in the bush. After his school years he quickly found his passion for working on the railroad as a brakeman and conductor.

Don and Marie (Campbell) Wizniak were married in October 12 of 1964 and had three children, Kimberley Christine (Rucks) Wizniak, Jody Donald Wizniak, and Lonnie Robert Wizniak. His railroading required him being away from his family for long periods of time all around Manitoba. When at home, Don enjoyed spending time at the family cabin at Ruby Lake, helping coach his sons hockey teams, and running his skate sharpening business. He also coached the Hunters Senior hockey team. Don enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, and attending dances with Marie. Sunday mornings were for dancing around the kitchen. Don took early retirement and helped Marie with her painting business, and on his days off in the winter months, he continued to run his skate sharpening business – best in town. As moms arthritis worsened, they retired together and kept busy helping their three children and following their grandkids to all their activities.

Don is lovingly survived by his three children and their spouses: Kim and Tim Rucks, Jody and Brenda Wizniak, Lonnie and Juanita Wizniak, his grandchildren: Brandon John McAree Wizniak, Holly Marie Wizniak, Joshua Donald Wizniak, Jordyn Amanda Rucks, Taylor Christine Rucks, Regan Lauren Rucks, Luke Darcy Wizniak, Jake Robert Wizniak, his brothers: Jim and wife Lena Wizniak, Morris and wife Anita Wizniak, Ron and wife Linda Wizniak, and his sister: Marcella and husband Perry Savoie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
