Obituary for Connie Ida Standish (Dales)

Constance Ida Dales was born May 16, 1928 to Robert and Christianna Dales. She passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019 just weeks after she celebrated her 91st birthday. Connie was born in Colmer, SK at the family farm home with a midwife in attendance. She was one of 8 children: Celia, Doris, Edwin, Janet, Connie, Robert, Lewis and Florence.
Connie attended Colmer School until grade 10. She had to take grade 9 and 10 by correspondence. She then stayed with her sister in Saskatoon and attended grade 11 at Nutana Collegiate.
On June 23, 1948 at the age of 20, she married Miles Allan Standish at the United Church in Duff, SK. She then moved with Miles to the farm one mile north of Kelvington. She was fortunate to remain living on the farm for more than 70 years.
To this union 7 children were born: Dale (died at birth), Gary, Lance, Blaine, Wendy, Victor, and Greg.
Connie was truly a hardworking farmer’s wife. Besides countless household duties she grew a huge garden, pitched in when needed to do barn chores, raised six children, was a wonderful cook, amazing baker, and still found time to be community minded. She was a member of the North Country Ladies for years and a devoted United Church Evening Circle member for 69 years. She loved watching her children and grandchildren participate in hockey, ball, dance etc. She was a Wheat King fan, a Blue Jay fan and an avid curler. She was a member of the “8-ender club”. Her home was a hub to us all. She always had coffee and fresh baking or a delicious meal for her family and friends.
Connie was predeceased by her parents Robert and Christianna, her husband Miles, her brothers Edwin, Lewis and Robert Dales, her sisters Celia Matthews, Doris Kraigsley, sisters-in-law Doreen Dales, Esther Sawchin, Idamay Leech, Wilda Widdows, brothers-in-law Vic Kraigsley, Wes Matthews, Stewart Wurts, Hector Loveridge, George Leech and Jim Widdows. She was also predeceased by her mother and father-in-law William and Florence Standish, her infant son Dale, and her grandson Jamie Standish
Connie leaves behind a huge legacy in her children. Left to mourn is her son Gary (Marilyn) of Kelvington. Grandchildren Warren (Karen), Craig (Erin), Michael (Belinda) and Trevor. Son Lance (Barb) of Calgary.
Grandchildren David and Lisa ( Jeff). Son Blaine (Peggy) of Kelvington. Grandchildren Bobby and Marty (Jenifer). Daughter Wendy (Joe) Pearson of Kelvington. Grandchildren Shannon (David), Ryan and Connie Rae (Justin). Son Victor (Iva) of Emerald Park. Grandchildren Amie (Shayne), Braden (Amy) and Jenna (Lance). Son Gregory (Karen) of Kelvington. Grandchildren Scott, Stephen, Shaelyn and Kailee. She also leaves to mourn 23 great -grandchildren whom she loved to rock in her faithful rocking chair. Connie also leaves two sisters Janet Loveridge of Melville. And Florence (Gordon) Mathews of Yorkton, SK. Sister-in-law Joan Dales of Phoenix, AZ, Brother-in-law Jim Sawchin of Melville, SK. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Connie gave a lot to everyone around her but most of all she gave us strength, unconditional love, the value of hard work, and respect. She never needed or wanted more and always appreciated the practical things in life. These are the qualities that we will remember and carry on.
