Obituary for Catherine Mary Jamieson (Morrison)

Catherine Mary Jamieson was born on the farm near Saltcoats, Sask., on April 22, 1920 to John and Maggie Morrison. She attained Grade Seven, but when her Mother died she had to work caring for siblings and earning some money working for others. Cathy married James Jamieson on September 30, 1940. They farmed on James’ homestead and raised three sons and three daughters. In 1981, they moved to Porcupine Plain and enjoyed retirement. Cathy was always active and involved in the community through the High Tor Homemaker’s Club, United Church Women’s Auxiliary, Porcupine Opportunities Program, and the Porcupine Seniors Club. Cathy, Jim and Byron enjoyed many trips to see family, and with their family took trips to Scotland, the States and BC.

Her dear husband Jim, passed away on March 28, 1990. Through Cathy’s determination and faith, she and Byron continued to enjoy life and home. Cathy finally had to move to the Red Deer Nursing Home in Porcupine Plain in January of 2009, as she could no longer mobilize on her own. She remained active knitting many pairs of mitts and socks for the bazaars, reading and attending the functions offered at the home. Her family phoned her every day and she so enjoyed family gatherings including the Jamieson Reunion on August 4 & 5, 2012. Many thanks to Dr. Pieterse and the Staff of the Red Deer Nursing Home for the wonderful care and companionship they gave to Cathy.

Cathy was predeceased by her parents John and Maggie Morrison; brothers: Donald (Annie), Findlay (Alma), Roderick, Ewen, Allan (Grace), and Willard; sisters: Isabelle (John) Tulloch, and Velda MacLean; brother-in-law Roy Westman; son Robert; and son-in-law Les Miller. Death is Nothing at all

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
that we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name,
speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone,
wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was,
let it be spoken without effect,
without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was;
there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you,
for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just around the corner.
All is well.
