Obituary for Karen Marie Bracken (Menard)

Karen Marie Bracken age 81 passed away peacefully on May 17, 2023 in Regina with her family by her side.

She was predeceased by her parents Oscar Menard and Margaret Menard.

Karen was the beloved wife of the late Elgin Bracken and Mother to 2 children; Wendy (Leon), Grandchildren Chad (Andrea), Megan (Pat), and Great Grandchildren Olivia, Gracie, Charlotte, Ellie and Vaida; Mark (Joanne) Grandchildren Nolan (Jenna), Quinton and Great Grandchildren Riley and Camden. Karen was predeceased by her one brother Dwaine and is survived by a brother Neil (Olga), and sisters Gail and Denise (Bob), numerous nieces and nephews and many other relatives.

Karen was born September 7, 1941 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. She moved to Hudson Bay when her father was transferred there to the Saskatchewan Timber Board. She married Elgin Bracken in 1960 and with their 2 children lived on the Bracken family farm south of Hudson Bay for 9 years. In 1970 they built a home approximately a mile North of the Bracken family farm and they made a life there until Elgin’s passing in June of 2014.

Karen had many careers over her lifetime, working for the Stark family, Brooks Food Market, Harold's Department Store, Olsen Jewellers and the Sears Catalog office. Karen was crowned the Lions Carnival Queen in the first annual Lions Carnival. She enjoyed baking and was known by many for her delicious buns. She volunteered many hours to the Red Deer Saddle Club and was always available to help out a neighbor. She was a beautiful soul and will be remembered by many for her kind, caring personality.

Karen’s biggest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. She was one of the most caring and loving mom’s and grandma and we were so lucky to have her. She thought the world of all her family. She loved spending time with the grandkids. She would take them every chance she got and loved watching them in their many activities. She always made sure she was fair to everyone of them, even if that meant buying a chocolate bar to add to a gift to make things even.

Rest in Peace Mom, we love you and will always miss you!

The family would like to thank everyone for their words of support and kindness.

A memorial service will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan #200 - 4545 Parliament Ave. Regina, SK S4W 0G3 or a charity of your choice.
