Steve Horyn was born October 27, 1937 on the Horyn Homestead quarter, South West of Chelan to parents Fred and Anne Horyn. He grew up on the farm with his siblings Katie, Mary, Fred, and Lena. Steve had a brother metro who passed away when he was an infant. Steve and his siblings had a long walk to school at Pringleton School. Steve never Married and never had children of his own. He played a big role in his sisters and brothers families. He loved children, and always had treats to hand out to the nieces and nephews. They could always count on Steve to lend a helping hand. He loved his extended family like his own. He started his career working on the farm. In his younger years he worked in the forestry industry. Logging took him to many places most memorable being for Leason Logging out of Hudson Bay, operating heavy equipment. This is where he learned to mechanic. He loved to tinker and fix. After his time in the bush, he worked at the Gulf in Porcupine Plain. The Gulf became Petro Canada. Steve had a lengthy career with having stomach cancer in-between. He loved his work and was fondly remembered by his coworkers, and the community. He kept himself busy doing many odd jobs after retiring. Steve cut grass, fixed mowers and tillers, he was also a farm hand to many throughout the years. Lastly working for Joe and Verna Brezenski. In amongst all theses jobs he always made time for coffee at the Café with friends at coffee row, fishing at Martyns Lake, gardening and trips out to the old farm. He had a massive garden at the farm. He’d make a fire and enjoy a wiener roast when out-there. Fishing was his favorite past time. As he aged, Steve relied on Tracy, Mark, and home care to remain at home as long as possible. He moved into Red Deer Nursing Home in August of 2022. Steve really enjoyed his time there. He looked forward to his visits from Tracy, and enjoyed the staff, activities and entertainment and his fellows residents.
