Obituary for Vera 'Doreen" Smith (Hall)

Vera Doreen Smith (Hall) was born at Porcupine Plain, on August 3rd, 1952 to parents Jane “Jean” & John “Jack” Hall. She was the ninth of ten siblings and grew up in the Greenview area. Doreen attended Greenview, Carragana and Porcupine Plain schools; receiving her grade 9 education.
Doreen met Garry Smith through her friend Donna Smith (Sydlowski) who happened to be Garry’s cousin. The two were engaged December 24th 1970. They married the following year, November 27th 1971 at Former Presbyterian Church in Carragana. Doreen and Garry settled just north of Carragana in the same yard with Garry’s parents. They have resided there ever since.
The two welcomed their first child, a son, Kelly in September of 1972. Followed by three more boys, Leslie in November of 1974, Darcy a few years later in January of 1980, and Dory in April of 1981 to complete their family of six.
Doreen was busy with a husband and four active boys, but she was ambitious. She worked several jobs throughout the years including: catering with Marilyn Fittes, housekeeping, cleaning for others as well as various painting jobs. She also belonged to the Carragana Recreation Board acting as Secretary for twenty one years.
In her spare time, Doreen enjoyed gardening, baking, bingo and sewing. Sewing led to quilting with liquid embroidery. Many grandchildren, close family and friends received a special baby blanket made by Doreen. She was very talented and thoughtful woman.
Doreen was predeceased by both of her parents Jean and Jack Hall, and siblings Gladys, James “Jim” and Harvey. Doreen leaves her loving Husband Garry of 51 years to mourn her. Sons Kelly & Family, Leslie (Kelly Rae) & Family, Darcy (Felicia) & Family, Dory & Family. Siblings Maud, John (Julie), Margaret, Beatrice (Andy), Peter (Judy) & Mary. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.
