Obituary for Karen Savage (Forbes)

Karen (Forbes) Savage was born on May 7, 1933 at her grandmother's house in the High Hill District to parents Bob and Agnetha Forbes. She attended school in High Tor and  then began working as a nurse's aide at a number of hospitals including the new  Porcupine-Carragana Union Hospital, Foam Lake Hospital and Essondale in Coquitlam, BC. She returned to the Greenview district where she married Jim Savage in 1957.  Karen was very active in the daily farming operation; helping with the livestock, seeding and harvesting and gardening. The farm was a busy place to raise four children. As the children became more independent, she returned to her previous career as a care aid in the Red Deer Nursing Home in Porcupine Plain, retiring in 1996. Karen was a proficient cook, baker and canner and delivered many field meals over the years. She  enjoyed curling, crocheting, knitting and sewing, creating many items for her children.  Each of her grandchildren received a personalized afghan for their high school graduation. In her retirement, she attended many old time dances and music jamborees. Karen loved to travel and had the pleasure of visiting many countries including Costa  Rica, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Las Vegas, Nevada and California in the US and several provinces in Canada.
Karen leaves to mourn: her children; Carol Belchamber, Bernice (Sam) Guspodarchuk, Sharon (Darrell) Farley, and Daryl (Carol) Savage. She will be missed by her seven grandchildren: Courtney Lounsbury, Braden (Krista) Belchamber, Bailey Belchamber (Cory Shaw), Kristen Guspodarchuk, Jared Guspodarchuk (Jennifer Verhelst), Brian (Danielle) Farley and Brett (Naomi) Farley along with eight great grandchildren:  Cash and Gatlin Lounsbury, Makayla and Anna Belchamber, Emery Shaw, Anna and Aden Farley and Julia Farley, sister in-law Verna Nagy and cousin Don (Doreen) Forbes.
