Nancy was born on February 6th, 1947 in Hudson Bay SK to Lily Thomas and Walter Cable. She grew up in Hudson Bay where she spent her time surrounded by her siblings and was the third of six children.
Nancy was always interested in literature and was an exceptional student. She took college classes by correspondence focused on a variety of Arts topics and was known by her professors for her excellent work ethic. She wrote for the Etomami news and always enjoyed telling stories. She met Halvor Knutson in her late teens and was married soon after turning 18. Their love blossomed into the most beautiful love story many of us have ever seen. They lived a simple life, living in Etomami and running their farm, working together against all odds to keep food on the table. They lived together with very little, but an abundance of love and work ethic.
Nancy’s door was always open, and a hot meal was always on the stove. She rarely spent a holiday alone and always took in stragglers whether it was family, friends or anyone who needed to be surrounded by love. Cousins were often lined up like sausages along the floor in their small farmhouse, but although the home was tiny, it was filled with love and laughter.
She enjoyed the simple things in life, a good poem or book, reading scripture, watching the blue jays out the window, curling and enjoying a tasty piece of chocolate. As she always said, “Life is uncertain, eat dessert first”. She was a whiz at Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and one of her favourite things to do was to play games with her grandchildren. Nancy was a devout Christian woman, who shared a strong faith with her husband, and they were lifelong members of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She always made time to volunteer for as much as she could for the church, even serving on the LWML.
Nancy is survived by her large family of three children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well many extended family members.
