Obituary for Shirley Magda Belanko (Horvath)

Shirley Magda  Belanko (Horvath)
Shirley Belanko was born in Bodroy Zsadany, Hungary on December 16, 1927 to parents John and Margit Horvath.

In 1929, they moved to the Muskeegan District 1.2 miles South of Prairie River, SK. In 1933, brother John Horvath was born.

Shirley went to the Muskeegan School from 1936 to 1938. The family moved to Ontario in 1939, where she finished her public schooling. From the ages of 14 to 18, Shirley worked in a plant in Welland, Ontario. The family moved back to Saskatchewan in 1946.

In 1947, Shirley married her childhood friend John Belanko, they had two children Richard and Linda. They enjoyed 37 years on the farm. Shirley was a typical farm wife; gardening, canning, baking, milking cows, sewing, etc. Shirley and John moved in Porcupine Plain in 1982. John passed away in 1994.

Shirley kept busy with the Somme Legion Auxiliary, the Bethany Good Shepherd Church, the Community Choir, volunteering at the Red Deer Nursing Home playing cards and helping anyone that needed help.

Shirley’s strength was her faith in the Lord and his son Jesus Christ.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents John and Margit Horvath; husband John; son Richard and daughter-in-law Sharon; brother John Horvath; uncles: George Senderak, Zigmond Toth, George Banks; aunt Elizabeth Banks; father and mother-in-law Joseph Elizabeth Belanko; brother-in-law Joe Belanko; and sister-in-law Lucille Belanko.

She survived by her daughter Linda (Ed) Kuzyk; grandchildren Brett (Stephanie) Kuzyk, Christa (Chris McLeod) Kuzyk; great-grandchildren Sadie and Duncan; grand children Leslie and Leonard Netowaysin, Shawna McCrea, Scott McCrea; and their children and grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Horvath and children: John (Betty) Horvath, Debbie (Neil) Mathers; Ellen (Blair) Kulyk, Margaret Langdon, Reg (Caroline) Horvath, Dennis (Trinity) Horvath, Denise (Yvan) Jasmin and their children and grand children.

A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at a later date. Those so wishing may make memorial donations in memory of Shirley to the Hudson Bay Health Care Facility.
