Obituary for Bob Ollenberg

Bob began life in Souris, MB when his mom went there to give birth at his grandma’s house. Bob was the fourth child of Wilna and Harold Ollenberg. Bob grew up on the farm near Avonhurst. After his parents split up, Bob moved in with his mom in Regina. He spent some of his earlier years in Hudson Bay as well. He later settled in Lethbridge, AB where he raised his daughter, Melanie.
In 2001, Bob met the love of his life, Cath, and moved to the UK. Bob and Cath were married on the 8th of August, 2003. With open arms, he gained two children, Garrath and Danni. In fall of 2012, Bob and Cath moved back to Hudson Bay to help care for his elderly father.
Bob was small in stature but had a huge heart. He lived life to the fullest. Bob has a great sense of humour and loved to joke around and laugh.
Bob loved music and while Bob and Cath were getting to know each other across the distance, there were times where they talked about music and they had been listening to the same song at the same time, thousands of miles apart. It was clear that they loved the same types of music.
Bob was passionate about curling and golfing until he had to quit due to a shoulder injury. Bob loved woodworking and was quite proud of leaving a legacy of garbage bins behind in Hudson Bay. You may not know this but Bob loved to putter around in the garden, too. One year they were planting the garden flowers but Bob said he only wanted to plant the blue ones.
Bob always insisted on sharing household jobs. He was always passionate about baking, cooking, and trying new recipes. Often, he would post pictures of his culinary creations to his friends and family.
But the thing he was most passionate about was helping anyone that was in need and taking people under his wing. He would drop everything to go and help someone.
Bob’s culinary skills extended to another love… his fur babies; Cassie, Gypsy, and Bob’s precious shadow, Harley. Bob and Cath enjoyed long walks with their dogs in nature.
He loved his family on both sides of the ocean. He was so excited that because his Granny was Scottish, it allowed him move to the UK.
After his first visit to the UK, he had made up his mind to marry Cath. So, he contacted Cath’s neighbour and mailed a ring box for her to tuck at the top of Cath’s Christmas tree, which Cath couldn’t even see. On Christmas Day, he called and proposed. He may have had some rough edges but he was a romantic at heart.
When Bob was in school, he loved the story of Robin Hood, which gave him a passion for medieval history. So one of the first conversations that Bob and Cath had were about Sherwood Forest and the castles. Bob asked Cath if she lived near Sherwood Forest and if they could visit it from where she lived, when he came to the UK. He was so excited upon seeing his very first castle.
When Bob and Cath went on a tour of Maid Marian’s castle, they were the only ones in the group that dressed as a complete knight and his maiden. And in front of the castle, Bob got down on one knee and asked Cath to be Maid Marian to his Robin Hood. And this is why it was Bob’s desire to have his ashes sprinkled in Sherwood Forest.
Due to Bob’s love for people, he chose to donate his organs to those in need. He was able to pass on the gift of life to two people.
More than anything, Bob loved the Lord. His faith was a steady rudder as he navigated life and all that went with it.
Bob will be truly missed by his loving wife Cath, children, Melanie and Garrath, grand children Selas, Zen, Grace, and Freya, and extended family.
