Alice Elsie Gel (Shewchuk)
Alice Elsie Shewchuk was born on August 6, 1933 in Wakaw, SK. She was the youngest of seven children born to John and Mary Shewchuk. Alice grew up on the family farm near Tway, SK. In 1937, the family moved by train to Prairie River, where they started farming on the homestead. Alice attended Muncey School.
On February 16, 1952, Alice married Harry Gel on her parents farm at Prairie River. They were blessed with 8 children. They raised their children on that farm and later built a new home a mile south down the road. The home didn't have running water or electricity until 1977.
There were many chores for all family members including: raising chickens, turkeys, geese, pigs and cattle. This helped supplement the family's food bill greatly. Alice also enjoyed gardening and cooking. Many friends and family came to visit and they never left hungry.
Alice’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her 8 grandchildren: Jason (Lindsey), Jennifer (Joel), Shawn (Rebekah), Ashley (Mike), Cody (Serena), Cambrie, Kyle and Carson. Alice also had four great grandchildren: Karley and Myden Kocay, Zosia Lesperance and Soren St. Louis. Alice Loved to play cards and bingo with them. She watched them grow up and was always interested in their activities.
Alice was predeceased by; her husband, Harry Gel, her parents John and Mary Shewchuk, brothers John Jr., Walter and Victor Shewchuk, her sisters Eva Kisil and Annie Kowal. Alice leaves to treasure her memory are her loving family; Sons, Dennis, Ronnie, Micheal (Rebecca) and Clifford (Teresa); Daughters, Linda, Lorraine (Barry), Shirley (Jim) and Iris (Terry); Sister, Nellie Ferleyko and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
