Obituary for Dorothy Marlene Dickson

Dorothy Marlene Dickson
Dorothy Marlene Dickson (Dot) was born on April 15, 1951 in Hudson Bay, Sk. where she grew up and went to public school. She married Lorrie Soura in 1968. They have two children, a son, Lorin and a daughter, Mandy (Parenteau). Lorrie's trucking job required the couple live in Duff, Sk. Thereafter the couple lived in Saskatoon, Sk for several years before returning to Hudson Bay in the mid-seventies.

After Lorrie's passing, Dorothy developed a lasting relationship with a new partner, Bill Eng. Dorothy has three cherished granddaughters, Camree, Aliya, and Jolie Parenteau. A devoted grandma, Dorothy spent time and energy helping to care for them when needed and enjoying the fun and frolic of their company. They were her pride and joy and greatly enriched her life.

Dorothy was a diligent homemaker. She worked hard to care for her home and family, always going the extra mile to keep their needs met. In addition to her daily responsibilities at home she worked in the community through the years doing various housekeeping jobs.

She is well known for her finely honed baking skills. We remember her delicious gingersnaps and various pies.. Many times her prize winning blueberry pies earned her the title of "Queen" of the annual Heritage Park pie baking contest.

Those that knew her well will recall how she loved a good cup of coffee, a big belly laugh, chocolate, reading, her pets, abundantly decorating for holidays and fishing with Bill. In her early years she grew vegetable gardens and preserved it by home canning. In later years she could be seen meticulously tending her flower gardens and many potted flowers. She appreciated nature in all of its forms. She provided a home for a Jenny Wren as she loved to hear it sing. She fed the birds and appreciated watching them enjoy the seeds.

She had a caring and giving nature and helped others in need any way she possibly could. She was the embodiment of kindness although not weak or timid, At times she was a force to be reckoned with.

Although adversity often darkened her doorway, Dorothy was a mix of everything required to face life's challenges. Her sense of humor was unique and shared generously with others. Her laughter will be remembered by all. She had a great love of cats and dogs and her fur friends flourished in her care.

Her greatest loves were her children, grandchildren, Bill, and many siblings. Extended family and friends also held a special place in her heart. Although her brilliant light no longer shines we will always walk in the warm afterglow.

~Barbara
