Obituary for Ernest Arlie "Ernie" Tessmer

Ernest Arlie "Ernie"  Tessmer
Ernest Arlie Tessmer, age 82, passed away on August 27, 2020, at his home in Weekes, SK.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Joan, of sixty years; his children, Michele, Greg (Clara) and Lesley (Dean Martin); his brother, Earl; his sister in-laws Winnie Lungul and Connie (Vic Rousson), and Gail Birtles; and his brother in-law Ken Birtles (Eileen Danyluk); his grandchildren, Damien Gabrielson, Jaden Ollerhead, Brett Norum (Angel Hein), Barrett Norum (Aaron); Brock Norum (Chantelle), and Maryanne Norum; and many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Bernice and Lellis; his brother Joe; his sister Hazel Hartl; His grandson Braedon Carignan; his brother in-law’s David Hartl, Hugh Birtles, and Wayne Schmeichel; and his sister in-law’s Joyce Tessmer and Agnes Birtles.
Ernie was born on July 12, 1938 on the homestead in Arborfield, SK, to parents Lellis Carlyle and Margaret Bernice Tessmer. He attended school in Arborfield, SK. In 1949, his family moved to Somme, SK, where he continued his schooling.
In 1958 he accepted a position as station agent with Canadian National Railway and work at various stations around Saskatchewan as a relief agent until he was permanently assigned the station at Prairie River in 1967, he then accepted the station agent position in Mistatim, SK in 1969 where he worked for nine years until he began faming and outfitting at Weekes, Sk. In addition, he managed weather stations in Nipawin and Wynyard, SK for Environment Cananda from 1975 – 1987.
Ernie was a great family man and a loving father. He married Joan Alice Birtles in August 21, 1960 and the couple had three children together. Ernie was an active outdoorsman who was deeply involved in hunting, trapping, and fishing for the majority of his life. He enjoyed spending time and guiding hunters at his cabin at the Big Valley Lake. He also liked camping and listening to music at the Tennant Jamboree and Barrows Music Festival. His family and friends will always remember him as an avid traveler. He and his wife, Joan, visited many warmer countries every winter.

Due to Covid, there will be a private graveside service for immediate family and friends in Weekes, SK. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
