Obituary for Inga "Granny" Kraft

Inga "Granny" Kraft
Inga Kraft (Grefstad) was born May 1, 1928 in Ogema, Saskatchewan where her parents Carl & Kristi Grefstad had settled from Norway. Carl and Kristi moved to Somme in 1930 where they farmed and raised three daughters. Inga was blessed with her two sisters Olga and Shirley and they were truly her best friends. Inga attended the Souchez School, which was located along the Somme grid, until grade 8 when she became her dad’s right-hand man. Inga spent many years farming with horses in the summer and cutting cord wood and hauling it to Somme in the winter. Inga was very proud of the fact that for all the hours spent driving horses she never once had a wreck. Inga had a strong work ethic and enjoyed farming, tending to her animals and milking their cows.

Inga worked at the hospital in Saskatoon where she met and then married Warren Kraft on April 10, 1950. Warren and Inga had 4 children Linda, Sharon, Mervin & Shelley. Inga loved her family dearly and her 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren brought her such joy. Next to her love of family and friends was Inga’s great love of music. Inga and Warren formed a band and spent years playing for dances and other events. Inga absolutely treasured every minute spent playing her piano and continued playing while residing in Wadena, giving everyone some enjoyment in her melodies.

Inga worked at the Red Deer Nursing Home as the activities director. This was a suiting job for Inga as she had such a kind and loving way about her. She was always caring for and looking after others, leaving a lasting impression with everyone that was lucky enough to know her. She also dabbled in cutting hair although perfecting that skill is in question.
Hello Sunshine or dearie was Inga’s customary greeting. She always had a smile, hug and a compliment leaving one feeling better about themselves then when they had arrived.

While living in Tisdale most evenings were spent playing music or playing cards at her apartment or at Mike & Shirley’s with friends and family. Canasta, Yahtzee & Rummy were a few of the favorites we all got to play with them. Inga also enjoyed trying her luck at the casino, a schnapps of whiskey and savoring a good meal (dessert included of course).

Inga was known as “Granny” to many who weren’t her actual grandchildren, she just had that kind loving nature. No one left Grannies hungry as she made sure you were well fed. Care packages were made when one was traveling any distance with enough packed to feed a small army. If she was driving this was a good thing as chances of getting lost were inevitable.

If we have learned anything from Granny it is that being kind was the only way she knew how to be, and we should all strive to be just a little nicer to one another to honor her legacy.

Inga is predeceased by her parents Kristi & Carl, her sisters Olga & Shirley, her brother in law Phil and Warren Kraft.
