Obituary for Sharon Gail Washburn

It is with great sadness that the family of Sharon Gail Washburn announces her sudden passing, on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at the age of 77 years. Sharon will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Claude and her children Marvin, Claudia (Richard) and Alfred (Vicki). Sharon will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Cassandra (Mikey), Liam, Owen, Dominic, Damian, Jared (McKenzie), Chianna, Aiden, Richard, Lilyana, Jayme-lynn, Trinity and Emmitt. Brothers, James (Peggy) and Colin (Maria). Sharon was pre-deceased by her parents James and Dorothy Brough, brother Ronald and grandson Cory.
Sharon and her husband Claude’s love for children inspired them to become foster parents for over a decade. They had thirteen foster children, Danny, April, Dwayne, Darrell, Darren, Andy, Reme, Vivian, Dwayne, Donna, Deana, Dianne and David. Of the thirteen foster children, four of the children were mentally challenged and spent over 8 years full-time in Sharon and Claude’s care.
Sharon was an avid reader, writer and loved fine arts. She was dedicated to learning and furthering her knowledge through training and continuous learning. Her presence, laughter and spontaneous nature brought delight to everyone.
Her relationship with Jesus led her to her enthusiasm for serving in her community. Sharon was involved with many organizations including the Special Olympics. She was instrumental in opening the Hudson Bay Crisis Centre and becoming a long-term board member. Sharon was a member of Ala-non for many years and served as treasurer. Sharon was active in the Anglican church and became a Lay Pastoral Minister. Her unconditional love for people was her life’s work.
In 2009, Sharon suffered from multiple mini-strokes which caused mobility and cognitive disabilities. Therefore, she was no longer able to continue her work.
