Obituary for
William "Bill" M. F. Adam
William Malcolm Floyd Adam (Bill) was born on January 26, 1942 in Rose Valley Hospital to Mac and Ethel Adam and passed away suddenly on July 30, 2019.
Growing up on a farm near Greenwater Lake, Bill began his teaching career in 1962 in Porcupine Plain, SK. It was here that he met his future wife of 55 years, Margaret Derkach. They married and moved to Inuvik, NWT in 1964 where they lived for four years while Bill taught. In Inuvik, they started their family having two children, Kevin and Cheryl. They moved to Saskatoon briefly, and then to Hudson Bay, SK in 1969 to continue teaching. Over the next two years, Bill and Marg had two more children, Craig and Brent. Bill was an exceptional educator for 28 years, teaching English, science, woodworking, and mechanics at both Stewart Hawke Elementary School and Hudson Bay Composite High School. Bill and Marg have been proud to call Hudson Bay home for the past 50 years.
Bill was a valued community member, volunteering his time and contributing wherever needed. He was the honoured recipient of the Town of Hudson Bay Rotary Club Citizen of the Year in 2010, as well as the Saskatchewan Lions Club Hall of Fame Inductee in 2012. People often would say that Bill would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. He coached hockey and numerous school sports teams, officiated hockey, umpired baseball, played rec hockey and slo-pitch. Bill was a board member on the Hudson Bay Golf Club, Curling Club, and Minor Hockey Association, as well as a long time member of the Lions Club. His voice was famous as the colour commentary on CFMQ radio for countless hockey and high school football games.
Bill loved the outdoors! He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, playing afternoon crib with his buddies, cards with his many friends, watching his many grandkids in their various activities, and correcting peoples grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. During the last few years, he and Marg loved to see the world going on numerous cruises.
He is predeceased by his parents Mac & Ethel Adam and granddaughter Emma Crowther. Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret, their four children Kevin (Sharon Chapman), Cheryl (Kirk Crowther), Craig (Debra Duncan), and Brent (Janalee), and grandchildren Brendan (Kayann), Aidan (BethAnn), Katie, Mikayla, Colton, Olivia, Parker, and Josh.
We had to proofread this several times knowing that he was checking for spelling and punctuation mistakes and likely missed some anyways.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hudson Bay Health Care Facility.
