Obituary for Lila May McChesney (Pomfret)

Lila May was born May 2, 1924 on the family farm North East of Lockwood, Saskatchewan. She was the fourth child born to parents Harry and Clara Pomfret. There were 7 in the family: Jim, Lenard, Leone, Lila, Neila, Lana, and Ben. She grew up there and attended Howat School - 3 miles from the farm. At the age of 20, Lila went to Vancouver, British Columbia to join her sisters and attended Pitman Business College. She was later employed by the Credit Bureau. In her early 20s, Lila made her choice to serve God and this choice guided her through life. She (and Irvin) had the privilege of caring for a Sunday morning meeting in their home until now.
In 1954, after declaring she would never marry a farmer or live in Saskatchewan, she married Irvin McChesney of Kelvington, Saskatchewan. They took over the family farm from Jimmie and Hazel McChesney. Together they operated a seed farm for 35 years. In 1988, they retired to town. Lila was a true farmer’s wife;
operating big equipment and hauling countless meals to the field.
Her favorite was running the combine. Even after moving into town,
she knew what was seeded on every field and never lost her interest in the farm.
Lila was predeceased by her husband Irvin McChesney(2010); father Harry Pomfret (1983); mother Clara Pomfret (1999); siblings: Jim Pomfret, Lenard Pomfret, Leone Faris, Neila Larsen and Ben Pomfret; brothers-in-law: John Larsen, Fred Faris and Bill Hulgaard; sister-in-law Edith Pomfret; Irvin’s siblings: Glen (Ruby), Don, Verna, and Cliff; son-in-law Alan Henderson.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Heather (Rick) Radom of Kelvington, Saskatchewan; daughter Marlene Henderson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; son Warren (Jackie) McChesney of Kelvington, Saskatchewan; 8 grandchildren: Kerri (Troy) Hillaby of Kelvington, Saskatchewan, Kristen (Rick) Stevens of The Netherlands, Kali Radom of Kelowna, British Columbia, Rodney Radom of Kelvington, Saskatchewan, David Henderson, Dani Henderson, Zach McChesney and Kasia McChesney all of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; 5 great-grandchildren: Tayler, Travis and Kiarra Hillaby, Tessa and Lukas Stevens. Lila will also be missed by her sister Lana Hulgaard of Langley, British Columbia; sisters-in-law Hazel Pomfret of Nokomis, Saskatchewan, Dorothy (Don McChesney of Kelvington, Saskatchewan, Eleanor (Cliff) McChesney of Surrey, British Columbia, Fay (Marshall) Young of Bredenbury, Saskatchewan; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
