Obituary for
Phyllis Mae Halliday (Bruce)
Phyllis was born on November 16, 1919 in Aylesbury, SK to Frank and Effa (Soule) Bruce. She was the fourth of five children. The Bruce family farmed in the Aylesbury area until 1926. Then, they moved to Hudson Bay Junction, settling in the Etomami district.
Phyllis worked various jobs in her younger years, such as a cook in many local establishments and the Binkley lumber mill, and as a chambermaid in the Marcotte hotel.
Phyllis married Robert Tait Halliday on December 14, 1941. She became Bob’s right-hand man on his homestead in the Greenaway district.
Phyllis was an avid gardener, spending many hours tending to her flowers and vegetables. She was also a skilled seamstress and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Phyllis and Bob enjoyed travelling to various parts of North America to visit family and friends. As well, they attended many dances at the Etomami hall, where they would dance until the wee hours of the morning.
Phyllis volunteered at the Pioneer Lodge doing hair for the residents, and at the hospital, where she would do crafts with the patients.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Donna Darlene, and son-in-law, Donald Leslie Dickson. Darlene and Donald gifted Phyllis with three loving grandchildren: Darla Dawn Dickson (Kevin Jorgenson) of Calgary, AB, Marnie Lee Hall (Rodney Hall) of Humboldt, SK, and Darryl Leslie Dickson (Sara-Jane Scott Dickson) of Saskatoon, SK. Phyllis had the privilege of seeing the birth of four great grandchildren: Tanner Rodney Hall, Chase Andrew Hall, Piper Lily Scott Dickson, and Barclay Tait Scott Dickson. Phyllis is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Robert Tait Halliday, a son in infancy, her parents (Frank and Effa Bruce), and her siblings Coral (Norman) Drechsler, Melvin (Mary) Bruce, Fay (Anna) Bruce, and William (Enid) Bruce). She also experienced the loss of many nieces and nephews.
