Obituary for Delmer W. Thorpe

Delmer was born in Westbend, SK to Art and Daisy (Johnson). He grew up and lived his life here in Porcupine Plain, SK.
As a young man with his 4 brothers he enjoyed the outdoors; by playing ball and swimming in the creek in the summer and the winter was spent trapping and on the ice playing his favourite game hockey. He also always enjoyed hunting and he hardly ever missed his mark.
Delmer met the love of his life Donna Logan in high school and married her on November 5, 1966. They were blessed with 4 children; sons: Todd, Derek and Troy, and daughter Stacy. He was a great father and so proud of each of his children. He spent many hours coaching ball, ringette and hockey.
He chose to be an electrician and got his journeymen's in 1969. He apprenticed with Daryl Dodd’s and then started his own company Thorpe Electric in 1970. Delmer worked hard everyday and never turned down a job whether it was 40 below or the middle of the night.
Although he was very busy in his own life he took time to volunteer in the community. He served on the Fire Department for 40 Years, the school board for 15 years, the Area Association, the Kinsman Club and the Lions Club.
As the years went on and his family started growing he started doing the things he enjoyed in life more, such as: gardening, listening to country music, going fishing, and traveling. Spending time with his 8 grandkids was his favourite thing to do. His eyes would sparkle when he spoke of them. He was a true family man and would do anything for them.
The last three years of Delmer’s life was a struggle with his health. His strong fighting nature, was there until the end when he finally let go.
Delmer is survived by his wife Donna of almost 52 years; son Todd (Sheri); son Derek (Amanda); son Troy; daughter Stacy; grandchildren Cheyenne, Chelsea, Jayden, Caleb, Gavin, Daveny, Avery and Peyton; brothers Harold, Lloyd (Sandra), Dwight (Elizabeth) and his half sister Monique (Al); brothers-in-law Dennis (Rosemarie) and Larry (Donna); sister-in-law Jean; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents Art and Daisy; brother Artie; father-in-law Elmer; mother-in-law Vera; and brother-in –law Arden.
