James Angus Cameron (Jim), second child to Archie & Peggy Cameron, was born Mar 3, 1936 and has 3 siblings; Ken (Jean) Cameron, Janet Cameron & Velma (Jerry) Deobald. In his early years Jim moved with his parents to different parts of Saskatchewan including Chelan and Clemenceau. When the family moved to Regina Jim attended Pasqua Elementary School and Scott Colligete. Jim completed 10th grade after which he decided to join the workforce.
In 1954 Jim met a nursing student who won his heart. Jim married Muriel Elaine Christopherson in 1957. They are true soul mates and a shining example to their family and the world of what true love looks like! We are all grateful to have been witness to their love story. Muriel tells us that they nearly had a fight ONCE but never again. He adored hearing Muriel sing and his favourite place was wherever Muriel happened to be! Jim cared very deeply for his immediate and extended family and was always there to help in whatever way he could. Their first child Beverley Joanne arrived Jan 1, 1958; followed by Barbara Elaine on Jan 20, 1959 and Bradley James on Dec 26, 1961. The family lived in Regina until 1967 when Jim transferred to the Saskatchewan Liquor Commission store in Porcupine Plain. When the Gov't of Sask closed the store in 1969, Jim approached the government with a business plan to open a private liquor vendor store. He owned and operated the first such store in Saskatchewan. He operated that as well as his other businesses until after he suffered a serious heart attack in 1985. His family all feel extremely grateful & blessed to have had all those 33 additional years with him.
Jim & Muriel raised their children in Porcupine Plain and while doing so, were subjected to the many musical lessons and practices of the children which included cornet, french horn, clarinet and piano lessons. Dad even managed to keep his hearing & his sanity through all of that! He was a kind, patient and gentle but firm father. He was known to gently brush tangles from his daughters' hair, hand out hugs when needed and never hesitated to ask "how can I help you?" or to say "I love you". He called all of his girls 'sweetheart' and the boys were 'Big guy'.
The family enjoyed many summers camping at Greenwater Lake Provincial Park first in a large canvas tent and then upgraded to tent-trailer. There were curling games, hockey games and basketball, etc. that he attended, as often as he was able, in order to cheer on his children, grandchildren and extended family.
Jim was extremely proud of his Scottish ancestry . He enjoyed life. He loved taking naps, travelling with family and friends, babies and small children. His 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren gave him as much joy and pride as his children. Jim loved watching sports on tv: boxing, golf, baseball and hockey and played hockey, golf, curled or a good game of poker or crib.
Jim had a wicked sense of humour and loved a play-on-words, appreciated lively discussions and could tell a good joke and a great story. He enjoyed a good laugh with others and could just as easily laugh at himself.
In more recent years Jim took up some interesting hobbies. There have been many of his stained glass creations gifted to family and friends. He also learned how to make balloon animals and made them at more than one Porcupine Sports Day. Watching birds outside of the dining room window was a frequent passtime with many different kinds of birds visiting the feeders he had hung in the tree. Jim's favourite colour was blue, favourite flower was the gladioa and his favourite food groups were chocolate and butter tarts.
Jim is pre-deceased by his parents Archie and Peggy Cameron; parents-in-law Alvar and Nellie Christopherson; sister-in-law Gail Herman; brother-in-law Edwin Sebastian and uncles, aunts and cousins.
Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years Muriel; children: Beverley (Richard) Walker, Barbara (Walter) Kaziuk, Bradley (Carolyn) Cameron; six grandchildren: Peggy Walker (fiance Jared Pittman), Heather (Lee) Thoms, Jamie Cameron, Greg (Justiene) Cameron, Steven Cameron and Blair Cameron; three great-granddaughters Cameron, Claire and Gracelyn; brother Ken (Jean) Cameron; sisters Janet Cameron and Velma (Jerry) Deobald; brothers-in-law: Murray Christopherson, Neil (Elaine) Christopherson, Darryl (Colette) Herman Lynn Sebastian and many nephews, nieces, cousins and other extended family. Although he was a very gentle man he left a his mark on his family, his friends and his community.
