Obituary for Maryann Diane Annette Samida (Boyko)

Maryann Diane Annette Samida (nee Bokyo), 67, passed away on June 1st, 2018 at Whitewood, Saskatchewan. Maryann was born February 26, 1951 in Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan. Maryann was educated at Cherry Blossom country school and Porcupine Plain Composite High School, before attending the University of Saskatchewan where she earned a Bachelor of Education degree. She left full-time employment as a teacher after marriage to the love of her life, Dexter Samida, October 12, 1974, although she never stopped educating youth.

Maryann and Dexter raised four children, Dexter, Krystol, Lila and Natalie, in small towns across Saskatchewan, moving to their current home in Whitewood, Saskatchewan in 1987. She was an active participant in all her children's activities, learning to swim and skate as her children did the same.

After her children left home she embarked on new activities - starting a play school for her grandchildren and other children in Whitewood; joining Toastmasters; and taking on the challenge of running multiple half-marathons. She never stopped enjoying crafting and created many quilts with her impressive imagination and fabric scraps.

Maryann had an infectious smile, perpetually sunny disposition and an enduring love for people. She volunteered countless hours to ensure her children, grandchildren and all children in her communities had a chance to experience something new - she believed that if a child had a chance to try something just once that they would have the confidence to try the next thing! She loved her family, particularly her many grandchildren, and her community - the feeling was reciprocal.

Maryann was predeceased by her father and mother, John and Stella Boyko, and siblings, Steve and Rosaline. She is survived by her brothers (Jack Boyko, spouse Susan, and Ted Boyko, spouse Rita), sister-in-law (Lois Taylor), husband of 43 years (Dexter), children, a number of nieces and nephews, and grandchildren (Dexter and spouse, Sejin: Ethan; Krystol and spouse, Scott: Jenna, Alyssa and Natasha; Lila and spouse, Larry: Brittany, Laine, Lawson and Kennedy; and Natalie and partner, Brady: Brooke, Maddie and Stella).
