Obituary for
Dorothy Marie Whatley (Hiebert)
Dorothy "Dot" Marie Whatley, age 81, passed away Tuesday February 20th, 2018 in the Red Deer Nursing Home in Porcurpine Plain where she had been a resident for the last 2 years after a double amputation of her legs due to health reasons.
She was born in Pontrilas with twin sister Doris to the late Jacob Hiebert and Lola Rodgers Hiebert. The girls were affectionately nicknamed Dot & Dash. Younger brother William (Bill) was born a few years later.
Dot grew up in Codette, however she lived many places throughout Sask, Alberta, Manitoba, and B.C.
While in AB she met & married Ron Whatley, the love of her life who predeceased Dot November 26, 2015.
They shared a wonderful life together with their happiest times living in Manitoba (first in Jenpeg, then in Wabowden) where they loved camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, open pit bbq's, and many wiener roasts.
It was in Wabowden they opened a gas & convenience store naming it Dot's Gas Bar and became very well known and respected members of the community, and made many deep friendships that have lasted till the end.
Dot loved spending time with her family and friends and was always up for a visit...even if she just met you.
She was definitely a people person, liked to be helpful, enjoyed a good dirty joke as much as her vodka and was always ready with a smile.
Predeceased by her sister Doris Mitchell; brother Bill Hiebert; grandson William Dannewald; granddaughter Katelyn Garvin.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: Stanley Peters; Sharon Dannewald; Sandra (Dennis) Bishop; Donna (Lloyd) Schuler; Sheila (Trevor) Garvin; Roni (Kevin) McInnes; Terry (Chrystal) Favell; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
The family would like to thank the staff & residents of the Red Deer Nursing Home for their love, care, and friendship of Dorothy. So many of you brightened her days and laughed along with her. We are deeply grateful to you.
A memorial service for Dorothy will be held on May 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Pioneer Place in Carrot River, Saskatchewan.
