Murray Allan Smith
Murray Allan Smith was born on September 13, 1951 in Porcupine Plain, SK to parents Raymond and Verna Smith. Murray was raised in the Carragana District. He began his schooling at the Pleasant Corners School completing his education in the Carragana School.
On September 26, 1970, Murray married Gerry Read in Carragana. To this union three children were born: son Allen, son Gerald and daughter Lorrena. Murray’s working career began mining at Estevan, SK, and then lead him to the Simpson Timber Mill in Hudson Bay, SK, he also logged with family and worked at the Binkley Sawmill. Murray developed a passion for heavy equipment and he soon began working for Mark Prouse Gravel as well as farming with Walter Bender and then Bud Cooper. In 1984, Murray accepted a position with the R.M. of Porcupine #395, and it was there he worked for the next 32 years retiring in 2016.
As a young man, Murray loved the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, archery 3D shoots and quadding. He also had a passion for old cars and loved showing his car at the local car shows or just attending shows to see what others had. Murray never had trouble striking up a conversation, and his family and friends will definitely miss his gift of telling stories.
Murray was predeceased by his wife Gerry; parents Ray and Verna; parents-in-law William and Margaret Read; brother-in-law Lloyd Read; and great-nephew Dominick.
He is survived by his son Allen (Moe) and their son Trever; son Gerald and his daughter Kaelyn and son Rielly; daughter-in-law Tina; daughter Lorrena (Kurtis) and their son Drayton; his brothers: Garry (Doreen), Leonard (Olga) and Brian (Crystal); sister Joanne (Denis); sisters-in-law: Lea (Norman), Marie (Stan) and Theresa (Bob); special friend Donna; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
