Obituary for Clifford "Jim" James Gordon Savage

Clifford James Gordon Savage was born on December 11th, 1929 in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, the eldest son to parents Clifford and Pearl Savage. Jim enjoyed his childhood years involved in various sports and activities. In 1932, the Savage family moved North to the Somme area, eventually settling in the Greenview district in 1934.
In 1957, Jim married Karen Forbes of High Tor and they took over the family farm where they raised their four children. Jim continued to live on the farm and participate in the day to day farming decisions until his recent illness. Jim’s farm was his passion. He enjoyed grain farming, but his real interest was his cattle. Despite a herd size of 500 head, he knew them all, especially his cows. They all had their unique names including, “Yellow White-Faced Crazy,” “Floppy Ass Red,” and “Long-Horn Snowshoes.” Any time of the day or night, Jim could be found checking for new calves and caring for the farm animals, often on his three wheeler and later on the quad. He did try a two wheeled dirt bike but an encounter with a deer on a back grid road put that to an end.
In his early years, Jim spent time hunting, fishing, and camping and in the winters enjoyed coaching hockey, curling and snowmobiling. He was a regular exhibitor at the Shand Fair and was integral in maintaining the outdoor skating rink in Carragana, one of the duties of a rural school board member.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Pearl; siblings: Marjory Moore, Edna Thompson, Jeanne McDougal, and George Savage.
He leaves to mourn his daughters: Carol Belchamber, Bernice Guspodarchuk (Sam), Sharon Farley (Darrell); son Daryl Savage (Carol); and their mother Karen Savage; grandchildren: Courtney Belchamber (Dale Lounsbury), Braden Belchamber (Krista), Bailey Belchamber, Kristen Guspodarchuk, Jared Guspodarchuk, Brian Farley (Danielle Desjardins), and Brett Farley (Naomi Wright); great-grandchildren: Makayla and Anna Belchamber, and Cash Lounsbury; sister Verna Nagy (Eugene); along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
