Obituary for Geraldine Elizabeth Johnston (Allan)

Geraldine Elizabeth Johnston (nee Allan) was born June 30th, 1929 in Tisdale, SK. She was the fifth of six children born to Elizabeth and Nelson Allan. Geraldine grew up and received public and high school education in Porcupine Plain, SK. Geraldine attended teachers college in Saskatoon, SK following completion of high school. Her first teaching position was at Somme, SK.
Geraldine married Gordon Johnston on August 14th, 1951. Gordon was farming in the Copeau District North of Porcupine Plain, SK so Geraldine spent several years teaching at the Copeau Rural School as well as some part time teaching in Porcupine Plain, SK.
In 1966 Gordon and Geraldine purchased the general insurance business in Porcupine Plain, SK and moved to town with children Gerald and Bette Lee. Geraldine went into the office to help Gordon get started and this became her career until retirement in 1991.
Geraldine enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Lyndsey and Cole, and loved them very much. She travelled to Mexico, Disneyland and Disneyworld with Lane, Bette Lee, Lyndsey and Cole. They even got her to go on a roller coaster--first and last time. She also enjoyed visits with her nieces and nephews, to whom she was known as Auntie freckle face.
She went on a yearly golfing week around Saskatchewan with her sister Robertine. They were often joined by their friend Mary Wright for a few games. Geraldine always looked forward to that time with her sister. Besides golfing, Geraldine enjoyed quilting and made many quilts, most of which went to family members. She quilted every one by hand and enjoyed spending many evenings working on them. Geraldine's other interest was gardening. She spent lots of time in her yard and it always looked beautiful.
Geraldine was predeceased by her husband Gordon Johnston; her parents Elizabeth and Nelson Allan; her brothers: Gerald Allan, John Allan, Robert Allan, and Nelson Allan; brother-in-law Sam Schneider; and sister-in-law Josephine Allan.
She is survived by her son Gerald (Movita) Johnston of Porcupine Plain, SK; daughter Bette Lee (Lane) Lisitza of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; Granddaughter Lyndsey Lisitza; grandson Cole Lisitza; sister Robertine Schneider of Lanigan, SK, and sister-in-law Annie Allan of Calgary, AB, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Miss Me But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me
I want to rise in a gloom filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little bit but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low,
Remember the love that we once shared.
Miss me - But let me go.
For this journey we all must take
and each must go alone,
It is all part of the master’s plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart,
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me - But let me go.
