Obituary for John Klassen

John leaves behind his loving wife of 57 1/2 years, Linda (Miskolzie) Klassen; his daughters, Gail (Don), Fran (Dwayne), Bernice (Dan), and Karen (Ritchard); 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his 4 siblings, Anne, Abe (Sue), Ike, and Bill (Myrna); his two brothers-in-law, Wilbert (Joanne) and Bryan (Mary-Ann) Miskolzie; as well as many nieces and nephews.
John is predeceased by his parents (John and Anne Klassen) as well as his father and mother-in-law (Joseph and Kathleen Miskolzie), 2 brothers-in-law (Marvin Loewen and Archie Miskolzie), and sister-in-law (Carol Klassen).
John was born on the family farm near Hague, Saskatchewan on August 30, 1927. At the age of 13, John moved with his family to the Smoking Tent district outside of Erwood. The family was self-sustaining. They grew most of their vegetables, raised farm animals, and hunted wild game. They earned their living, in part, by harvesting trees and selling the wood.
John remained on the family farm until he moved to Saskatoon at the age of 25. He found employment at Dalane's Garage. John met his wife Linda in 1958 and they were married on May 30, 1959. They moved to Hudson Bay in 1965 with their 3 daughters: Gail, Fran, and Bernice. Karen was born a year later.
John worked as an automotive mechanic with Don Hallen and Marcotte Motors in Hudson Bay. He and his friend, Howard Schultz, left their employee positions to operate their own service station that they named J&H Royalite. Approximately 3 years later, John and Howard closed the service station. John accepted a position with Simpson Timber where he worked as a heavy duty mechanic for 21 years. John retired in 1990 when the mill closed. He continued to work out of his home garage for several years.
John was a gentle and kind family man who dearly loved his family and friends. He was a man of deep faith and his life reflected that through his love of serving others.
John's hobbies included spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends as well as travelling, camping, and fishing which could be quite an adventure! He enjoyed his time at the coffee shop, being out in the garden, driving in the country hills, attending church on Sundays, woodworking, and tinkering in his garage on various projects.
John will be greatly missed by all those who shared his life.
