Obituary for Glen Alfred Upton

Glen was born on October 16, 1925 the third oldest of 6 children on the family farm in the High Hill District north of Nut Mountain, Saskatchewan. In 1943 at the age of 18 he joined the Edmonton Fusiliers. His unit was stationed guarding the communications cable overseas in Newfoundland. He met Edna Barrett at a going home party for servicemen in May 1945. They married on September 29, 1945 and moved to the family farm where they started their family. Their first daughter Fran was born on December 14, 1946 followed by son Wayne on January 21, 1947. They moved back to Harbour Grace, NFLD in 1948 where they continued their family. Daughter Robin was born on June 5, 1949 followed by son Paul February 5, 1951, daughter Iris March 30, 1952 and son Ralph on November 11, 1958. The family moved back to Saskatchewan in 1959.They continued their family with daughter Linda on February 7, 1961 and a baby girl in July of 1963 who died at birth. Glen worked bush work in the winter and as a farm hand in the summer until 1969 when he went to work at Beaton's Hardware in Kelvington, Saskatchewan until 1976. Glen got a job at Simpson Timber in Hudson Bay in 1976 and moved the family to Hudson Bay. Glen was employed at Simpson Timber until his retirement, then he started G&R Woods, with his youngest son Ralph as a partner. They manufactured and sold wooden toys at trade shows and stores all around the country. There is one of their toys on display in The House of Commons in Ottawa, it is a detailed logging truck that was made by Ralph. Glen also enjoyed playing his guitar and harmonica and singing. Glen moved to the LTC at the Hudson Bay Health Care Facility in 2013 where he received excellent care after a fall that left him confined to a wheelchair. Left to mourn his passing are daughter Fran (Ron) Ditter of Kelvington, daughter Robin (Lorne) Orr of Star City, son Paul (Gay) Upton of Hudson Bay, son Ralph of Hudson Bay, daughter Linda (Robert) Kittleson of Yorkton, daughter in law Sharon Upton of Edson, Alberta, 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, sister Wanda (Ed) Tokarchik of Prince Albert, sister Idamay Lechler of Prince Albert, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Glen was predeceased by his wife Edna in 2008, daughters Iris in 1954 and baby in 1963, son Wayne in 2001, and grandson Shane in 2013. Glen will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all his family and friends. We all love you Dad.
