Obituary for John Maxwell Purcell

John Maxwell Purcell
John Maxwell (Max) Purcell of Hudson Bay passed away at 87 years of age. Max will be sadly missed and forever held in the hearts of family and friends. He leaves behind his children; Gerry (Irene), Chris (Kathy), Roly (Susan), Marilyn (Denis) Engele, Doug (Sandy); Ten grandchildren: Raissa Purcell; Trevor, Bradley (Annette), and Kyle Purcell; Shantelle (Trevor) Wagil, Jenilee (Patrick) Allen and Chelsea (Karolina) Purcell; Ryan (Brandy) Engele, Jaret (Nicole) Engele, Rychelle (Jeff) Engele-VanHeukelom; Ten great-grandchildren: Riley; Dawson and Asher; Jada, Tyce and Bentley; Mason, Brody, Emery and Ava; His brother: Clarence (Doris), sister in law Jessie Stokal, brother in law, George (Jean) Foster and many relatives and friends.
Max was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Marjory (Marj), his parents: Henry and Mary (nee Clyde) Purcell, and siblings: Clyde (Elaine) and infant brother Gordon.
Max was born on his parent's farm in the King George Municipality just south of Dinsmore, Saskatchewan. He was born on September 15, 1928 to Henry and Mary Purcell. Growing up he rode his horse to Abermule School and once finished, he travelled west. First, working in the Yukon hauling silver as a truck driver, then in Vancouver to work as a meat cutter before returning to Dinsmore where he took over the family farm. On October 15, 1952 Max married the love of his life Marj Foster, celebrating their Diamond Anniversary on October 15, 2012. Together they were blessed with five children that kept them busy with their many sporting activities. Max was active with the Kinsmen in Dinsmore as well he loved coaching the children in their ball and hockey teams.
In 1976 Max sold his farm in Dinsmore and moved to Hudson Bay. Having hunted and fished in the Hudson Bay area for many years, he decided it was a great place to retire. It was there that he served as a counsellor for the RM of Hudson Bay, farmed and enjoyed playing cards and watching his grandchildren in their sports.
Max was always smiling and laughing but you needed to be watching as he was also quietly playing a prank on you or stealing your dessert. His stories were never ending from back at the cabin and in his later years he spent many hours checking out the hunting spots or fishing with his family and friends. Max touched many lives along the way and will be forever missed.
