Obituary for Helen M. Fraser (Murray)

Helen Marigold Fraser (Murray) was born in Porcupine Plain SK on March 10th 1949 to Jim and Martha Murray. The Murrays lived in Porcupine Plain until Helen was 5, when they moved to Saskatoon. She lived the majority of her life in Saskatoon but as an adult spent time in several places including Regina SK and Ponoka Alberta. She returned to her home community of Porcupine Plain in 2001, where she found a community of people that she loved and appreciated.
She went to elementary school at Pleasant Hill, and then Princess Alexandra, and then High school at Bedford Road and Walter Murray in Saskatoon. After many years as an entrepreneur and restaurateur with her husband Gary she returned to school at the Saskatoon Business College in 1983, where she graduated with honours.
She met her husband and the love of her life, Gary Fraser, in April of 1969, and they were married on November 1 of the same year. She knew she was going to marry Gary the first time she saw him without ever meeting him. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on November 1 and she was so happy that they made that milestone.
She was blessed to have her son Sean early in life, and Gary & Helen were blessed to have their two sons, Colin and Nicholas. Helen loved all of her Grandchildren: James Coleville, Mandi, Sean II, Dane, Tyler, Aubrey, and Cheyenne. She also felt very close to, and loved her daughter in law Janine and son in law Duane.
Helen was always doing art and learning different crafts. She was an avid knitter, and quilter. She was a collector of dolls, art cards, quilts and traded many different crafts through the years – it was always about what she gave, not what she received. After returning to Porcupine Plain Helen learned painting, scrap booking, and was involved with so many local crafting groups. Crafting and learning new skills with her friends gave her so much joy.
She lived her life with her husband and family waiting for their next adventure. Whether it be the next new food she could discover, the next new place she could visit, the next new business venture they could undertake, she always looked to the future and the possibilities.

“I always believed it was more important to dance with a kid on each hip, than it was to take out the garbage” – Helen Fraser.
