Obituary for William Charles "Bill" Jaszan

William Charles Jaszan was born to parents Charles ( Charlie) and Kathleen (Kay) Jaszan in Hudson Bay, Sk. On Jan. 10, 1947. He was named William but everyone called him Bill. Bill received all his schooling in Hudson Bay until grades 11 & 12 which he took in Yorkton at St. Joesphs College for boys.
During Bill’s younger years the family did some camping and travelling. They spent many week-ends in Flin Flon, Mb. with family. Bill realized at a very young age that he really liked to trap, hunt and fish, and when Charlie was working and could not join them, Kay would take Bill and younger brother David on the train to Prince George to visit the grand parents. The family also travelled to Montreal to see Expo in the 60’s.
When Bill finished high school he was hired to work at an Indian residential school in The Pas, Mb. After a couple of years at the school he decided to move to Thompson, Mb. Were he got a job with Inco Mining. He worked there until he was injured in a accident. He moved back to Hudson Bay and after a period of convalescing he got his first taste of long haul trucking with Hudson Bay Transport. Shortly thereafter Bill was in an accident with the truck which laid him up for a couple of years. Then he moved to Fort McMurray, Ab. and got a job with Syncrude, he was with them for 8 years and in 1986 he decided he wanted to go back to trucking, so he returned to Hudson Bay and to Hudson Bay Transport.
In Oct. of 1988 Bill reconnected with an old flame which he regarded “ as the love of his life” Shirley which became his wife on April 4, 1990. Bill and Shirley trucked together for 14 years during which time he went through a total knee replacement on his left leg that was injured so badly in his previous accident, a couple of bouts of really bad infections and then eventually amputation of his left leg. Bill never gave up on his dream of trucking though, so I told him that we had to find a easier way of trucking. That we did, we Hired on with J.B.M. out of Saskatoon pulling dry box and temperature controlled units. We were with them for 5 years and then moved jobs and hired on with H&R Transport out of Lethbridge Ab. We were there for 7 years and finally had to come off the road due to infections in Bill’s leg. That was Dec.9, 2009. Bill was admitted to long term care on Oct.15, 2010 and that is where he passed away.
When Bill married Shirley in April of 1990 he also accepted the responsibility of Shirley’s 3 young daughters. Over the years he grew to love each and everyone of them with all his heart, and later on came 3 grandchildren. While Bill was in longterm care and I would visit with him the first thing we would talk about was the kids and grandkids and how they were doing. Each and every visit Bill would validate his love to me and the family, and he always said “and that includes Sharon, Doug and the kids”.
Bill was predeceased by his grandparents, his father Charlie and his mother Kay.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Shirley, 3 daughters Sharon (Doug), Debbie (Mike) and Michelle; Grandchildren - Alison (Mike), Keith, and Colten (Angela); Nieces - Shawna and Trisha (Daren); Nephews - Gavin, Troy (Kristen), and Daniel (Amanda); Great nieces - Sarah and Rachel; Great nephew – Lucas. He is also survived by many cousins.

~~~~~~
A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, “Grieve not for me.
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is set at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we’re together again.
