Obituary for Hazel Henrietta Noer (Shand)

Hazel Henrietta Noer was born on January 8, 1917 to parents Margaret
Cruickshank and James Shand. Her family immigrated from Huntley,
Aberdeenshire, Scotland to Canada when she was 5 years old. She spent all of her
youth growing up South of Porcupine Plain. Hazel received her education at High
Tor School. She stayed with her parents to help on the family farm.
Hazel married Nels (Art) Noer in 1941, and later the next year gave birth to
Arnold Noer their first and only child. In 1948 they bought their first home
together in Porcupine Plain. She was a dedicated house wife, mother, sister, and a
loving devoted daughter who spent many hours caring for all her family.
Hazel belonged to the United Women's Church Group which she enjoyed very
much. Hazel was very close to her two sisters Sheila and Alexina. All three of
them would spend countless hours together, even after they grew up and went on
with their own lives.
Hazel loved to bake all sorts of goodies; she had quite a sweet tooth. She would
always bake more then she needed in order to share with her friends and family.
She also kept a large garden that she was very proud of.
In her later years she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and watching her
dinner and evening “News”. She also enjoyed a nice cup of tea with her friends
and caught up in her local town gossip for the week. She sure loved a good game
of cards with her friends and enjoyed numerous games of checkers and such with
her grandson Dennis. She spent as much time as she could with him. You could
say she was a permanent fixture in her daughter in laws house! Shirley didn't seem
to mind and if she did Hazel would have told her, “that was just too bad.”
Hazel was predeceased by her parents Margaret Cruickshank and James Shand,
husband Art Noer, sister Sheila Duplessis, and many friends.
Hazel is survived by her family, with who she has left many cherished memories:
sister Alexina Shand, of Fort Qu'Appelle, SK; son Arnold (Shirley) Noer;
grandson Dennis (Elaine) Noer, and their children Garrett & Regan; Nephew's
Roland (Connie) Duplessis of Saskatoon, SK and Calvin (Joan) Duplessis of St.
Albert, AB, and numerous relatives.
